APWA MID-ATLANTIC CHAPTER – Lunch-n-Learn-Leveraging and Enhancing Construction Management Skills

January 15, 2026 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Baltimore Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) will present the benefits of developing defined skills in performing professional construction management tasks. Attendees will gain an understanding of the mission, vision, code of ethics, and standards of practice that CMAA has developed to improve the construction management industry. CMAA has established a rigorous qualification platform for developing essential skills, starting with entry-level management utilizing the CMIT certifications. Enhancement training builds on the CMIT program, allowing mid-level professionals to obtain a CACM credential. This is followed by testing for engineers and industry providers to ultimately become a Certified Construction Manager (CCM), which is considered the gold standard for project delivery. This designation represents an individual’s commitment to excellence in program and construction management, career advancement, and an ongoing pursuit of knowledge. The differences between the PMP and CCM certifications will be discussed, and the core testing areas for the CCM will be briefly highlighted. Additionally, helpful information on the application process and requirements for meeting minimum education and work experience qualifications will be presented. The discussion will also cover where construction management practices are beneficial and why. All parties can benefit by gaining a better understanding of the resources and support available to organizations, owners, and individuals.
