SUMMARY:Poplar Island Ecosystem Restoration Project Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a “three-hour-tour” of the island to learn about engineering and environmental aspects of what has become an international model for the beneficial use of dredged material. \nProject Summary\nPoplar Island is an environmental restoration located in Talbot County\, Maryland. The beneficial use project relies on dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. \nUSACE and MDOT MPA set out to achieve three goals: \n\nRestore remote island habitat within the mid-chesapeake bay.\nOptimize the placement capacity for sediment dredged from shipping channels.\nCause no harm to the environment around the restoration site.\n\nlick here to learn more about the project. \nContinuing Education Credit Learning Objectives\n\nIndentify engineering principals for beneficial uses of dredged materials.\nLearn about restoration practices of remote island habitat.\nUnderstand water quality monitoring.\nLearn how to design for promotion and monitoring of species diversity.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Very Limited Tickets\n\nPrivate group boat ride and tour of this active construction site.\nThree Continuing Education Credits (CEUs).\nLunch to follow at Chesapeake Landing restaurant\, near St. Michaels.\nHigh Visibility Vests (provided or feel free to bring your own).\n\nNotes\n\nClosed toe shoes are required.\nBoat will depart promptly at 9:00 AM.\nPlan on arriving 10-15 minutes early to check in and receive a safety briefing.\nBoat will return at 12:00 PM.\n\nLocation\nMeet at Poplar Island Land Base Office\n21548 Chicken Point Road\, Tilghman\, MD 21671 \nPoint of Contact\nNichole Penick\, CMIT L2 | Events Chair\npwvpen23@aacounty.org\n \n DOWNLOAD EVENT FLYER
